Action Research
Action Research happens when teachers play both the role of the instructor and the researcher in an educational institution or learning community. The goal is to better understand and adapt their teaching
methods to facilitate student learning. The process is similar to traditional research methods, but in Action Research, an action plan is developed to intervene and improve learning conditions and outcomes. Action Research may be conducted individually by one teacher, a team of teachers, or
the collaborative efforts of teachers, administrators, counselors, and school district officials.

Kurt Lewin (2007)
The earliest Action Research model came in the 1930's and was conceived by Kurt Lewin. He believed that his spiraling model in which action research could identify a problem or issue, and through the this process, could bring about a changes in the form of social action or reform. This progressive notion of education reflects a democratic connection to make change in a community through bettering teaching practices in the education system.

Action Research Project and Report
Our Action Research team wanted to find out
what effect, if any, does the use of color-coding
as an instructional strategy have on student ability to organize an argumentative essay. The exper- imental group of participants were instructed using color coding during modeling, while the control group was instructed without use of the strategy.

Traditional Research
Traditional research is a systematic process undertaken to increase knowledge in a particular field in order to
better understand or learn more about a specific topic. In this process, researchers collect, organize, and analyze categories of information in order to come to a conclusion or conclusions about the topic of choice. See model
below for each step of the process:

below for each step of the process:
Description of Research Steps
- Choose a research topic: The topic of the research is introduced and background information is given as to the nature of the problem or issue.
- Study related literature: Scholarly/ peer reviewed articles and other sources of literature are referenced and their findings compared to the present research topic.
- Specify research questions: Researchers provide a specific research question or questions to which they hope they to find data and answers.
- Choose research participants: Researchers decide who specifically will participate in the study; for example, what are the participants ages, genders, demographics, etc.?
- Develop research design: Will the research methodology be quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methodologies?
- Description of intervention: What actions will be performed in order to collect the necessary data?
- Data collection methods: What means and tools will be used to collect the necessary data; for example, surveys, interviews. journal reflections, tests, etc.
- Data results: What are the results and how will they be organized?
- Data analysis: How are the results broken down and explained with regards to addressing the research question or questions?
- Limitations/issues: What problems or issues may have affected the intervention and/or conclusions?
- Conclusion(s): What conclusion(s) can the researchers make based on the data analysis?Share information: Researchers share their findings with other scholars, institutions, and the public.
Traditional Research Project and Report
The aim of this traditional research project was to f find out how student motivation to learn was impacted during the Covid-19 imposed online learning. The study identified and discussed the major factors that contributed to increased motivation to learn, as well as those that contributed to decreased or loss of motivation to learn.
